Four advantages of an online CMBA for military personnel

1. Military service is a leading indicator of business success

The biggest difference between an officer and a CEO is that the CEO probably has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Much like business executives, soldiers develop habits that lead to success. The structure and discipline of military life make you focused and mission-driven, bold and decisive, well-prepared for every contingency and able to confidently assess risk. You know the skills and talents of the people in your charge and how to employ them.

Furthermore, because order and structure are second nature to you, an online CMBA program is, for military personnel, easier in many ways than for civilians. It requires a level of focus, discipline and commitment, as well as sharp time-management skills – areas you have already mastered during your years of service. For these reasons, earning an online CMBA is, for military personnel, one of the smartest decisions you can make for your future.

2. Fortune 500 companies actively recruit military veterans with MBAs

Aside from the fact that earning an online CMBA is, for military personnel, a fast and convenient way to translate your success in the service into success as a business professional, it's also one of the best ways to become a sought-after recruit among Fortune 500 companies. Though the military has a reputation for valuing command and control, the reality is that soldiers, especially officers, frequently find themselves in high-stress situations that require them to keep their cool while making life-or-death decisions. Often the order from your commanding officer is to "just figure it out," and following it makes you mentally agile and highly creative. The bottom line is that veterans deliver results. That's why so many top corporations actively recruit veterans with MBAs.

3. Military personnel gain a wealth of experience and skill at a very young age

From about age 18 or so, you have likely been immersed in extremely stressful situations that required you to think and act quickly and decisively, to lead important projects and to manage people. You have a real-world maturity that gives you a unique perspective. You also know how to function in a team and show respect. All of these are important characteristics in a qualified business leader. Plus, you've gained advanced technology skills that are invaluable in the corporate world.

4. There are many ways for military personnel to fund an online CMBA

In addition to the GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program allows universities to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public, in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The university can contribute up to 50 percent of your educational expenses, and the government will match the amount offered by the university. Also, a partnership between Student Veterans of America and the Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC) supports veterans who attend business school by providing networking opportunities, conferences and many other resources. It's also not difficult to find military-friendly universities that will help you translate the skills you learned in active duty into college credit.

So many of the qualities of a great soldier also make a great business leader. Corporations know that soldiers who gain business acumen are invaluable leaders. If you have military experience, an online CMBA may be right for you.
